The St. Mary’s County Tennis Association (SMCTA) held its 4th Annual Feast or Slammin’ Tournament on November 16, 2013 to benefit the Southern Maryland Food Bank. Originally to begin at 9:00 a.m. in George B. Cecil Park, the tournament was moved to the courts at Leonardtown High School due to a weather delay that lasted until 2:00 p.m.
“To wait five hours to play in a fundraising tournament is a testament to the passion of the sixteen players who braved the weather delays.” stated Jennifer Carlile, Tournament Chairperson.
The tournament raised $650 from entry fees and donations. The tournament co-directors, Jason Wynn, SMCTA Vice-President and Derek Sabedra, Patuxent High School head tennis coach, collected sixty-six pounds of food for the Southern Maryland Food Bank.
Door prizes were donated by the Ruddy Duck Restaurant located in Calvert County and Cheeseburgers in Paradise Restaurant in St. Mary’s County.
